Year 4 Weekly Highlights 10.6.22
Apart from lots of great enthusiasm for decimal hundredths in maths; chronology and discovering other great ancient civilisations in history; a trip to the library and writing a summary for the end of Whale Boy; the big excitement this week was probably our first street dance lesson with Katlyn. Loud music and the latest dance moves definitely got the Year 4 children's hearts racing as they twisted, jumped, flicked and learned moves such as the Bart Simpson, Shamrock, Reebok, 2 step and Scoop. At the end, the children choreographed their own quick performance which was totally amazing and a great achievement in such a short session.
Whale Boy ended on a high and the children loved sharing and discussing all the events in the story, with thankfully Spargo and JJ getting their comeuppance. The new unit of English kicked off with an advert for a job which not only was just for men (grrr) but was doubtful whether you would return from the hazardous journey. The children did not fancy the months of darkness or extreme cold with the small chance of fame. As a news reporter, the children will finish their newspaper report on the departure of Endurance for its epic journey to Antarctica in 1914 this week. Next week, we will explore a surprise that was discovered part way through the journey.
Thank you to all the parents and children who have been working hard on supporting and learning their multiplication tables. This is such a valuable life skill that we are delighted the children are making such fabulous progress. :-)
