Year 4 Weekly Highlights 20.05.22
Who would have thought that being an Ancient Egyptian would be so much fun?! Early in the week, we investigated different spices that can be added to bulgur wheat, ready for when we create our own tabbouleh; a dish from Egypt. The afternoon roused lots of discussion around the different flavours, whether they were sweet, sour or bitter, and some children discovered that some tasted better than they expected. They even found that the aroma of the spice could be totally different from its taste!
Continuing with our introduction to the Ancient Egyptians, Tree House Theatre arrived to coordinate a whole year group performance which brought together all the features of the Ancient Egyptians in a very humorous way. Jackson sadly had his brain removed as part of the preparation for the afterlife before being covered in natron to preserve his body and enable the spirits to return to his body. Simon and Kean were thrown to the crocodiles for being disrespectful to the Pharaoh Akhenaten, while Nefertiti collaborated from her throne. Ben kept the children on the edge of their seats with songs, acting and some rather grim facts on this ancient civilisation. Together with the children's wonderful Ancient Egyptian themed outfits and Keith's surprise Egyption cake, this made for an exciting and very lively day.
In English, the children have continued to describe the journey of Marcy as she enters the Egyptian tomb to save her father and in reading, Michael finds himself with a difficult dilemma as he discovers that whales do exist off the coast of Liberty, but should he tell Spargo? And is Spargo all that he seems? The children continue to use their skills of inference to draw conclusions on this rather suspicious character. The children will have new reading targets this week and we are very grateful for your support with helping the children to achieve this ready for the lessons. Have a lovely weekend. Year 4 :-)
