Year 5 Highlights 29.4.22
We started the week with a fantastic presentation by Stuart Edmondson from Fins attached about the challenges that ocean marine life faces in current times. Following our plastic pollution work, Mr Edmondson was invited to come and talk to year 5 about the work that he does. The children were enthralled by facts, videos and pictures and were challenged by the problems marine species face.
There were lots of new units started this week. In reading, we have begun to read and explore the Night Bus Hero by Onjali Q.Rauf. Straight away the children have engaged with the text and are eager to find out what happens in the story. In English, we began our new unit on poetry, looking at poems linked to rivers. The children have had opportunities to read and perform poems and identify figurative language features in poems. See if your child can tell you five types of figurative language?
In maths we have continued to explore fractions looking at the rules that surround comparing and ordering fractions less than 1 and greater than 1. We hope they are chanting the rules in their sleep, because we certainly are!
In science, we had an explosive lesson! The children explored reversible and irreversible changes seeing firsthand the effects bicarbonate soda had on vinegar! The children impressed us with the knowledge they have learnt throughout this topic on materials.
We hope that you have a great bank holiday weekend and we are excited for our adventures next week at Fairthorne manor! Don' t forget to pack your child's pillow and sleeping bag!
