Year 5 have had a very busy last week of term and we are very excited to share all the amazing work they have produced. 

After weeks of hard work, creativity and ambition, the children have finished their plastic pollution campaign posters. They have all done a wonderful job to explain the causes of plastic pollution, the negative effects and what you can do to help. They also did well to include all the success criteria in the writing, in particular colons in a list. In art, the children were inspired by Andy Warhol and created plastic bag pop art using newspaper collaging and poster paint. 

In reading, we also came to an end on our Nelson Mandela learning journey. The children have really enjoyed learning about apartheid and why Nelson Mandela is such a role model in black history. The children also had an opportunity to write a diary entry in the viewpoint of Nelson and his time in prison. 

In maths, we have been working hard on our fraction unit and have been looking at comparing fractions with different dominators. On Thursday afternoon, all children took part in a sports event in hockey, football or netball games. There were some extremely tense games with lots of nail-biting moments. All children performed exceptionally well and showed great teamwork. 

Friday was a special day with break the rules day. The day started off with a times table rockstars theme and then in the afternoon, we had lots of activities focusing around mental health and well being.
