Year 3 Weekly Highlights 14.3.25
What another exciting week in Year 3!
In reading, we have continued to read ‘The Lorax’ by Dr. Seuss. We have identified rhyming words within his book and continued to develop our reading fluency skills. Also, we have practised our prediction skills by using our creative art skills by using the clues from the text to predict the illustration. Next week, we look forward to writing a letter as The Lorax to The Once-ler.
In English, we have used a video clip from The Bee Movie and our scientific knowledge about bees to write a diary entry as Barry B. Benson. In the diary, Year 3 focused on sharing their thoughts and feelings from different events as well as challenges bees face each day. Year 3 really impressed us with their writing skills and using all their knowledge about bees so far!
In maths, we have started our learning on Mass and Capacity. We have learnt how to measure mass using grams as well as measuring mass in kilograms and grams. Please continue to keep practising your times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars at home!
Mrs Hillman has led British Science Week across the school this week. Year 3’s focus has been ‘biodiversity’. This week, we completed a survey in our school garden to see what biodiversity we have on our school grounds already.
To end our week, we had an exciting visitor in Year 3. Becca Hall came in and spoke to Year 3 about bees as Becca owns her own bee farm. Across the morning, Year 3 had three workshops all focusing on different aspects of bees. One workshop was with Becca learning about honey bees. The second workshop was about other bees and discussing the different types of bees whilst creating a portrait of a bee. The third workshop was about pests and protecting bees. Year 3 were fully immersed into bees and we had an un-bee-lievable morning - thank you, Becca!
We hope everyone has a great weekend in the sunshine!
