Year 3 Weekly Highlights 1.3.24
Year 3 have continued to work on the community value of respectfulness and this week, they have all been brilliant role models when moving around the school and within their classrooms - please keep it up Year 3!
In Maths, Year 3 have embarked on their Fractions learning this week, drawing on the key vocabulary of numerator, denominator and equal parts. Alongside this, they have been rehearsing their 3 times tables by using counters to show their thinking and bar models to solve problems.
We have all thoroughly enjoyed Chapters 3, 4 and 5 this week of our text ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’. Year 3 have sequenced key events in cartoon strips to build a class chapter summary and created their own dragons! Roll on chapter 6 on Monday!
As part of our branching databases unit in Computing, Year 3 worked together in teams to create their own database, creating groups and sorting using yes on no questions.
In Science, Year 3 retrieved their key learning on solids, liquids and gases and used this to help explain their observations across our 4 different practical investigations, from gloves inflating to raisins dancing. As we began to explore viscosity, a highlight was creating our own team lava lamps!
We are all very excited for our World Book Day celebrations next week and are looking forward to launching our celebrations by sharing our reading lesson with you at 9am on Monday! We understand if you are unable to attend this event and look forward to welcoming you into classes and sharing learning on our upcoming Parent’s Evenings.
We wish everyone a lovely, restful weekend,
The Year 3 Team
