Year 3 Weekly Highlights 2.2.24
This week we have been blown away by the creativity and independence of Year 3 in their letter to humans on behalf of endangered animals. We had letters from the Sumatran Elephants, Giant Pandas, Nimba Toads and Bengal Tigers, explaining the challenges they and their fellow animal friends experience from Andy Seed’s books. We were especially pleased with the children’s use of emotive language, rhetorical questions and range of sentence structures.
On Thursday morning, year 3 drew on our 'working together' value to research the Northern White Rhino through a combined reading and writing session. The children used their skimming and scanning to collect information. Year 3 will be using this information next week as we plan, draft and edit our own interview with a Rhino, in the style of our author!
In science this week, we explored the skeletons and exoskeletons of animals. We used videos of how animals move to make our own predictions for the key features of their skeletons. Meanwhile, in PDL, we reflected on our key organs and their role as part of our health and wellbeing unit.
Next week, we are looking forward to celebrating our Health and Wellbeing theme with our Year 3 Talent Show on Wednesday as part of the ‘Our Voice Matters’ campaign. On Thursday, we will also be joined by Winchester University students, who will complete our coasts learning in Geography!
As always, we wish everyone a lovely weekend,
Year 3 Team
