Year 6 Weekly Highlights 5.1.24
Happy New Year to everyone!
The children, even though a little tired from New Year festivities, have thrown themselves back into learning with gusto.
This week we have continued with the Christmas theme of Scrooge by expressing our disgust at the treatment of people less fortunate in Victorian times. They were shocked to learn that children younger than themselves would be sent out to work and not learning at school as they do. At present, the children are writing to a London newspaper company as Scrooge, spreading the message of change - benevolence and generosity to all!
In maths, the children investigated how to find areas and perimeters of rectilinear shapes and parallelograms by using their previous knowledge of rectangles.
In Art, the children have continued with the cubism topic. They are currently sketching their final piece. We look forward to posting these pictures next week.
On Wednesday, we had the first of our school-ground workshops. The children worked in groups to discuss different areas of the outdoor space: how they are used and how they feel about them. Our second workshop will be later in the term, where they will be looking at how the site can be further developed.
Finally, we would like to draw attention to Google Classroom and the new homework. Every Friday, there will be grammar, spelling and maths homework posted. If you have any questions regarding this, do not hesitate to contact the Year 6 team through the school office.
Have a wonderful weekend.
