Year 4 Weekly Highlights 10.11.23
After the excitement of Firework night at the weekend, the children arrived excited for another week of learning. In English, the children completed an independent write, pretending to be Jack from Jack and Beanstalk. There were some lovely thoughts and feelings associated with Jack meeting a very peculiar man on the lane and the horror as his mum threw the precious beans out the window. The children are now working on creating a twist to the story and are very enthusiastic to develop their own thoughts on the giant. In maths, the children are continuing their work on addition. They have explored mental methods including doubling, adjusting, using their knowledge of their number bonds and partitioning before using a formal written method. This week also sees the children progress to learning their 4 times tables, so please do find the time to learn and practice these. We are drawing to close on our work in reading on Cloud Tea Monkeys. The children will write a summary of the events so far before finishing reading this lovely story. Science has been very exciting with experiments on sorting materials using magnets, sieves and floating methods before using filtering to separate materials. We start our new unit of street dance this week, as of course last week was blown away, and the children always look forward to the fun warm up activities before learning the steps for a new dance. We hope you enjoy a more relaxing weekend and perhaps a stomp through those beautiful autumn leaves.
