Year 4 Weekly Highlights 30.6.23

Well this week got off to an exciting start as all the children arrived at school ready to discover who their new teachers will be. Transition can sometimes be tricky but the children came back to their original classes bubbly and excited. It's been an eventful year and we will miss them but we shall absolutely be making the most of the final few weeks with them all and we know they will have another chance to get to know their new teachers even better on Weds 12th July in the morning.
The children all got creative with clay this week as they learnt about different tools and skills to use when making sculptures. They used a range of tools to create different effects and were all able to use 'slip' to join bits of clay together. Their dragons look great, we hope you enjoy looking at the photographs!
We have started our new and final English unit this week, Shackleton. The children have been introduced to who Ernest Shackleton was, to his ship, The Endurance, and the expedition he planned in 1914. We have explored newspaper reports and their key features in readiness to become newspaper reporters working for the Plymouth Times in 1914. They will be writing articles about the momentous departure of that ship.
We have continued with our decimal unit in Maths this week, rounding decimals and understanding hundredths as decimals fractions to build on their learning of tenths. In Science we are learning about electricity and electric circuits which will lead nicely into a new DT topic in the next couple of weeks. All classes have enjoyed carrying on with their Egypt topic in History and their Karma topic in RE as well.
