Year 5 Highlights 25.3.22
This week in Year 5, we started our week off with looking at our spelling rule for the week. Some spelling activities included, taking the chalk outside and practicing our words in a scrabble format, using feathers and writing the words in the air, clapping syllables- the list goes on!
In English, we have been continuing with our Plastic Pollution unit and this week we have been learning how to use colons in a list. Children used different coloured paper to build their sentences using a main clause, colon and extra information using commas. They then had a go at writing their own sentences using a colon in a list from their own research, which they did in their PDL lesson.
In Maths, we finally finished our multiplication and division unit. The children have done really well, and we are sure they would be more than happy to show you the expanded method for x or the fraction bar (bus stop method) for ÷. We are now moving onto our fractions unit and the last 2 days, children have been looking at the different representations of fractions.
On Thursday, we were lucky enough to have 2 special visitors from St Boniface church come and speak to the children about the resurrection of Jesus. The children learnt about the cross and the significance of the candle. They even got an opportunity at the end of the session to ask some questions which they had prepared. “I liked it when I dressed up for lent and learnt about the resurrection of Jesus- overall the experience was really fun.”
On Friday, the children got the opportunity to showcase their drama skills and perform their poetry in our class competitions- they did a great job and should be very proud of themselves?
Have a super sunny weekend!
