Year 5 Weekly Highlights 24.3.23
This week Year 5 have been immersing themselves in the fight against plastic pollution. In English, they completed their research and now are experts. As part of the unit , we explored the use of emotive language and the use of colons to introduce a list. We are really looking forward to reading the outcomes to their campaign poster by the end of next week.
We also made our plastic sculptures this week, which highlights the issues sea creatures have with pollution. using their creativity skills, the children made wonderful sculptures fashioned from milk cartons, sweet wraps, bottle tops and much more. There were octopi, sea turtles, fish and eels. Thank you for collecting all the recycling which enabled us to do this.
In Geography and Reading this week, we explored the Artic Circle and the effects of climate change. We will have budding Greta Thunberg's by the Easter holidays!
In maths, we completed the first part of our fractions unit: finding equivalence ordering and comparing and adding and subtracting fractions. The children have showed much ambition and perseverance as they ventured through the fraction journey. We are now moving onto the second part of the unit, which covers multiplying fractions and finding fraction of an amount.
Have a great weekend.
