This Week Year 5 have had a wonderful week, here are some of the things we did.

In Maths, we have learnt how to convert fractions to a mixed number. We have learnt this by splitting improper fractions into wholes and thirds/fifths/etc. We also learnt to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions. We learnt this by using a multiplication method and using repeated addition. 

In English, we have been learning how to use fronted adverbials appropriately and we were very successful! We have also written a setting about the book called FLOOD and it is about a storm causing flood next to a house.

In Science, we have learnt about friction and how it works. Friction is a force against motion caused by two surfaces rubbing against each other. We have also learnt that friction breaks the bumps on the surface. 

In Reading, we have been exploring the story of Nelson Mandela and learning how to tell the difference between impactful verbs and verbs which make less impact. We have shown this by reading his autobiography and creating a continuum line. 

In Music, we have learnt to identify some of the structural and expressive aspects of the symphonic poem Vltava. We identified the instruments playing the main tune like the instruments and the harmony instruments. 

On Friday in year 5, we had an exciting opportunity to share a book with Year2. We unmasked the masked readers and we wrote a book review about the water tower, a book which everyone loved reading.
