Year 5 Weekly Highlights 24.2.23
Here are some of the things that we have been doing in year 5 this week.
In English, this week we have been learning how to write a short setting description about ‘the flood’ an amazing book about a small house that has been engulfed by a horrendous storm that has swept across the ground that was once beautiful.
In Maths, this week we were learning about unit fractions and non-unit fractions and how to compare them, we also learnt about the multiplicative relationship which is where you learn
In Reading, this week we completed a summary about Nelson Mandela who helped to change blacks' lives forever. He was very important in black history as he set up the 1st ever black law firm and helped the ANC (African National Congress) to change the minds of the government. Eventually they succeeded.
In Spelling this week, we did some partner tasks looking at the sounds ‘sure’ and ‘ture’.
This week [on Tuesday] we had an ambition afternoon. We drew our dream school and we shared what things we could have to make our school the best place it could be.
This week on Wellbeing Wednesday we made postcards for a secret someone in our class(it was a decision who we gave it to). It was very fun because we got to design them with different patterns and shapes, then we wrote a positive message on the front.
This week we have learnt about a person called Bedrich Smetana who composed the famous piece Vltava. Vltava is about a river’s journey. We have done an activity where we had to listen to 4 parts of Vltava and name the instruments we could hear. We also had to think of what part or feature of the river the part of music could be, tempo [how fast] and dynamics [how loud].
