Year 5 Weekly Highlights 27.01.23
Year 5 this week have been delving deeper into our topic on rivers. In geography, they compared rivers using OS maps and recapped how to find a coordinate on a map. We also started our art unit, which focuses on artists depictions of rivers. The children enjoyed looking at a range of artists from Monet to Hockney (a modern painter).
In maths, we have been working on short multiplication and will be covering short division in the next few lessons. Please practice this over the weekend to keep it fresh in their minds.
In Science, we continued to investigate air resistance and looked at variables which would affect the speed at which a parachute falls to the ground. Great fun was had adding holes to our parachutes and it was fantastic to hear the children working as scientists, applying their knowledge about air resistance to question when their results did not show what they had predicted.
English continued full of suspense, as we read more of the Watertower. We learnt about modal verbs and applied these in a diary entry showing the thoughts and feelings of Spike. Why not ask us the difference between 'We will learn more about modal verbs more next week' and 'We might learn more about modal verbs next week!
Don't forget 5CR have their trip to the New forest on Monday, 5MR on Thursday and 5M on Friday. The children need to have wellies, warm waterproof clothing, waterproof coat and a hearty lunch.
Have a good weekend
