Year 5 Weekly Highlights 20.1.23
From sporting events, to building a playground river Year 5 have had another curriculum filled week. In Geography, with the help of Mrs Tombleson, we built a playground river in order to look for features and stages of the river. Through the medium of song, the children cemented their understanding of waterfalls, estuaries and floodplains.
Continuing with our RE unit on 'Ummah' (the Arabic word Muslims use to mean community), the children explored the pillar Zakat. With much discussion, the children agreed that giving money to charities and to people in need would create community as we are looking out for each other.
In maths we have continued with our multiplication unit beginning to explore a formal written method for multiplication. Next week we will be teaching the children a short multiplication method before going onto exploring an expanded long multiplication method. In English this week we began our new unit on the book The Water Tower. We don't want to give too much away at this point as this suspenseful book inspires the children's imaginations. Why not get your children to practice the conventions of direct speech, as this was a grammatical skill that required a lot of ambition?!
From airtrack, waveboards to skittles and many more activities, the children enjoyed exploring a range of sports on our inclusion day on Friday. Enjoy the photos.
