What a brilliant week Year 5 has had this week! 

In English, we have written some truly beautiful poetry depicting the night sky. The children have excelled themselves in their use of figurative language (simile, personification and alliteration) and the results are just amazing! Take a look at the photos to see the high quality stanzas they have produced.

Our journey in Maths has come to an end this week with a final few lessons exploring the area of compound shapes. The children showed plenty of creativity in exploring different ways to calculate the area and selecting their preferred method to answer a question most effectively. 

Science has seen us delve deeper into the concept of air resistance and we have enjoyed working as scientists to identify and control variables in an investigation. In order to ensure our investigations were valid, we only changed one variable (the independent variable) and sort to uncover if the length of the wings affected the rate of the helicopter's fall. Plenty of discussion was had, full of scientific language, and the children confidently used the planning mindmap to plan out their investigations. 

In other areas of the curriculum, we began to explore the concept of Umma (meaning Community) in the Muslim faith and started our journey in Geography to answer if all rivers are the same. Alongside this, we've enjoyed continuing our class story, running the daily mile, visiting the library and looking at the /ch/ digraph and the different ways this can be pronounced phonetically.
