Year 5 Weekly Highlights 6.1.23
What a fun filled week Year 5 have had.
We started on Tuesday launching our Ambition learning value using the book ‘Salt in his Shoes’. We thought about what it means to show ambition and over the next few weeks will be working hard on our class targets and how we show ambition in practice.
We’ve had lots of opportunities to be ambitious in our curriculum this week. We started learning area and perimeter in maths and have thought about how to calculate the perimeter of rectilinear shapes. In English, we need heaps of ambition to apply figurative language in the writing of our own narrative poems. Look out for these in the highlights next week!
Science has been really fun as always and we’ve been exploring the force of air resistance. Why not ask your child to explain why a hammer and a feather fall at the same acceleration rate on the moon but not on Earth? As part of our learning, we went outside and felt the force, running with cardboard at different angles! Great fun was had and lots of fantastic use of scientific knowledge to explain what we observed.
On the note of force, we also used soundtracks from Star Wars to begin our new music unit about Film Harmonies.
This week has also included two trips to the library for the children to change their books and start reading something new! Please do encourage your children to read daily and complete their reading record so we can support them with their reading in school.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Why not get outside and feel the force of air resistance on a lovely windy walk!!
