Despite there having been lots of sickness in the year group this week, the children have done so well, as always! They have written fantastic information pages about their own imaginary dragons, based on the book, The Incomplete Book of Dragons by Cressida Cowell. They have come up with some brilliant names for their creations such as Phantom Spike , the Devilish Dragon and the Midnight Shadow. Since the start of the year, all the children’s overall sentence structure has improved massively and everyone has been able to write at least a couple of complex sentences to describe what can happen, for example, if their dragon gets attacked or when temperatures change in their habitat. Ask your child to tell you all about their creation! 

This week we all enjoyed our Winter Sports event! Despite the freezing temperatures, the children wrapped up warm and enjoyed basketball, dodgeball and bench all, earning points for their house for goals and teamwork. Their working together skills were at the fore during matches and, also, on the sidelines where all teams cheered each other and even helped to make up the numbers when the sides weren’t even. So a super well done to those who played for a different team and earned them some points too! What fantastic sportsmanship!

We also loved being able to invite you in to look in your child’s books. We hope you enjoyed seeing the progress they’re making and listening to them telling you all about their favourite pieces. The classrooms had such a buzz of excitement in them and were full of proud, happy smiles.

We have been so incredibly proud of all the year 4 children this term. They transitioned so well from Year 3 and have coped with the challenges of year 4, building on their previous learning and taking further. They’re all completely exhausted so we are pleased to be able to break for the holidays and let them rest and have lots of time for fun and relaxation!

There won’t be any spellings set over the holidays but we will be taking in reading logs during the first week back as we’d like the children to make sure they’ve read pages 131 -205 of Harklights before they come back to school. This will support them in the reading lessons in class in the first weeks back. Try not to read on! If you get to page 205 then see what other stories you can lose yourself in! Enjoy exploring! Perhaps a new author or genre!?
