Year 4 Weekly Highlights 11.11.22
It has been another eventful week in Year 4! This week we have been paying our respects to those who have fought to keep our country safe with Remembrance Day taking place on Friday. We all gathered together for an assembly in the hall, followed by a 2 minutes silence on the playground at 11:00. We rounded off the proceedings by listening to a remembrance poem read aloud by some of our Forces children. Huge thanks to all that came to be part of it - the poppy pebbles and decorations laid down by the children really emphasised the respectfulness we all feel at this time of year.
In English we have been exploring the Jack and the Beanstalk story, ready to write our Fairy Tale parodies! The children have also practised their use of fronted adverbials (ask them to tell you what these are!) and have reminded themselves of speech punctuation. We have developed this from Y3 as we are now focusing on how to record speech when the same person continues talking!
Our Reading text this half term is Harklights and the children are absolutely loving it! Their engagement is palpable and they have so many thoughts and opinions to share, it is a pleasure to work with them on this! Soon the books will come home so the children can continue their reading - please do support your children with reading this, you can absolutely record this in your reading records too! All the more chance to earn some house points! Remember, reading records need handing in every Thursday! The more you read at home each week, the more house points you will earn!
In Maths this week we are reminding ourselves of the formal written method for addition. This builds on Year 3 by increasing our understanding to adding 4 digit numbers, up to 10,000. The children have been doing really well and creating their own word problems to match the calculations they are solving - although when dealing with numbers this big, we perhaps need to imagine Hama beads or Orbeez, not sweets!!! This made 4DN chuckle this week!
Next week is Anti-Bullying week so please do remember to wear odd socks on Monday! Have a great weekend everyone!
