Year 5 Weekly Highlights
Hope you all had an enjoyable half term. This week's highlights are written by Cara and Jack (5MR).
This week in maths we started a new topic, statistics. We first looked at drawing pictograms and bar charts. We then looked at line graphs and the difference between this type of graph and bar charts. In science, we did an experiment about craters. It involved dropping different types and sizes of balls into sand. We compared the width of the crater they made. It helped our understanding of meteors, asteroids and comets. In art we have been creating our planet landscapes as part of our space artwork in the style of Kim Poor. We built reliefs out of cardboard, added oil pastilles and finally painted them black. Next week we will be putting all the elements together to make our final pieces of art.
This week all of year 5 have been lucky enough to go to Hiltingbury lakes on a field trip. In geography we have been exploring the view from above. Whilst we were there we completed a field work booklet that involved sketching, finding items and describing the lake using our senses. We also learnt about the app what.three.words, which can be used to locate your precise position on a map to give to someone else if you are lost, in need for help or to direct someone to your position.
It has been a very exciting week back after half term for all of us.
Due to new Internet being installed at school, we were unable to upload some photos. We will upload these as soon as we can next week.
