Year 4 Weekly Highlights 7.10.22
Another week, another trip! After the success of our trips to Bolderwood last week (travel issues notwithstanding!), we followed it up this week with our visit to Hocombe Mead. What a beautiful spot we all have on our doorsteps! This time our trip helped us to explore our local area with a view to writing persuasively, encouraging people to come to the area and the benefits of it. Children have been exploring expanded noun phrases to describe the area and have continued to practise writing compound sentences. Ask your child to tell you what a coordinating conjunction is! 4DN children loved the fact that there was so much space to run around, lots of fresh air and nature. They were interested to discover lichen on tree bark and to learn that it can only thrive when the air is fresh.
In Maths this week our focus has been rounding numbers, to the nearest 1000, 100 and 10. We’ve been identifying the previous and next multiples of the above and applying our learning that we round down on 0,1,2,3,4 and round up from 5,6,7,8 and 9. The children have enjoyed dice games to apply their learning and generate numbers and used number lines to support. Children have said 'it can be a little tricky but it's easy when you get used to it!'
In computing this week we’ve used the chrome books to explore how the internet works, and the difference between the World Wide Web and the internet. We’ve discovered what happens when we click on web pages, how the information travels and key features of a range of websites including Times Tables Rock Stars - please remind your children to be practising their times tables regularly - little and often is best! If using a PC, please encourage your children to use the num lock key and the keypad to the right of the keyboard!
