Year 5 Weekly Highlights 23.9.22
Year 5 have had another great week in school this week! While only four days, we have certainly packed a lot in!
In English, we are enjoying exploring the Listeners poem by Walter de la Mare. This week our focus has been exploring nouns and noun phrases and beginning to question how we can select vocabulary to create effect. We have revised our understanding of determiners, adjectives and nouns so do ask us about this!
In Maths, we have been counting in powers of 10, looking at what is the same and what is different when we add 10, 100, 1000 or 10,000 to a number. We have been using counters and place value grids to physically explore what happens helping us explain as mathematicians the patterns we notice.
As well as developing our ideas about Belonging in RE and how this is explored in the Islamic Faith, we have been questioning our own feelings, how these can vary in intensity and what we should do when our feelings become stronger than a '5'.
Science has led to more awe and wow moments this week as we've discovered how scientific ideas evolve over time. Ask us about Ptolemy, Alhazen, Copernicus and Galileo and we can tell you about how their enquiring and wondering led us to know more about how the solar system works! We even used a brilliant computer program to look at Pluto's orbit to help us understand more about how ideas are constantly evolving!
Finally, we finished the week with our library visits so we hope everyone has a great weekend with their new books. Next week is our Meet the Teacher event so hopefully we will see lots of you there! Have a great weekend.
