We have just checked our diaries and the reality of one week and four days has aroused so many emotions.  Feelings of sadness at the loss of such wonderful children, but also the knowledge that they are so ready for the new challenges and that step into upper school, are uppermost in our minds and hearts.  We are all so grateful for the privilege to teach and get to know these gorgeous, kind and humorous group of children and we all hope that they will keep popping in and letting us know how they are getting on. 

Despite the short time left, Year 4 has been and will continue to work hard.  This week we began one of my favourite English units based on the classic text 'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll.   After initially reading the extract on 'Painting the roses red and the comical game of croquet' the children have recapped their skills on punctuating speech before writing their own dialogue between Alice and the cards.  Next week the children will create their own adaptation of the croquet game with their own ideas on making the text funny. 

In maths, the children have explored the properties of triangles and quadrilaterals before making their own with geo strips.  Within the unit on shape and space the children will over the next few days investigate symmetry by identifying the line of symmetry before completing symmetrical shapes.  Finally, we will wrap up our geometry unit with some fun lessons on coordinates.

'If you think you've got it bad' has continued to be our reading text, with a link to the Ancient Egyptians in history. The children discovered that the Ancient Egyptians shaved their head although kept a single braid to keep cool in the hot climate.  While in history, the children loved hearing the grim details of how the dead body was prepared for the afterlife and how they believed the brain had so little importance.  Next week we are excited to find out why the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb was so important to learning about the Ancient Egyptians.   Best wishes for a super, sunny week.
