Year 5 Highlights 13.5.22
In Year 5 this week we have started many new units. On Monday afternoon we had a new art unit on sculpting. We looked at different sculptures and discussed how we felt about them. As the unit progresses we will be sculpting our own plastic sculptures. In Reading, we have been focussing on the Night bus hero. Year have been inferring character's feelings throughout the book. We are enjoying the book very much.
In maths, the fractions unit has been continuing and we are learning how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. In English we have been writing a poem in our poetry about rivers based on our Geography learning. Throughout the unit, we have been trying to write in the style of the poet Joshua Seigal using figurative language.
After a long wait (since Autumn term), we have started our new History unit based on the Vikings. We learnt about the chronology and when they invaded England. Did you know that Vikings and Mayan Civilisation occurred at the same time, but Mayans lasted much, much longer?
Finally, a very surprising piece of news, Year 5 will be soon hosting a cake sale for NSPCC linked to our PDL money unit! So look out for the posters advertising our event.
