Year 4 Weekly Highlights 28.2.25

We hope you enjoyed a restful and enjoyable half term break.  It was a delight to welcome the children back this week with their bubbling enthusiasm and excited passion to learn.  English has definitely been a highlight in Year 4 this week as the children completed their information page on their unique dragon.  The children were creative with their descriptions and definitely gave their dragons some deadly features like three heads and venomous spikes on their tails.  It was great to see some descriptive vocabulary being drawn from the forests of Harklights into the habitats of their dragons.  However the most exciting highlight was the introduction to the topic of Beowulf.  Listening to music synonymous with an ancient battle to set the scene inspired the children and created an exciting atmosphere to the reading of chapters one and two of this Anglo Saxon saga.  The children have now been introduced to the evil, menacing character Grendel.  The children will work towards writing a playscript.  In maths, the children finished 'area' and began their new topic of 'fractions' by recapping some of the basics like the bigger the denominator, the smaller the part. When given the example of a chocolate bar or birthday cake being shared with friends, this made perfect sense!  The children are finishing and evaluating their fantastically creative Hundertwasser inspired landscape paintings which look truly wonderful.  We are looking forward to sharing these with you at Parents Evenings at the end of term.   Harklights continues to be a feature of every day reading as we share Wick's adventures and we greatly appreciate your support with hearing your child read to enable them to meet the new targets.

Best wishes for sunny weekend.
