Year 6 Weekly Highlights 12.1.24
Light bulb moment! This week saw the start of our new unit on electricity. We had a fantastic practical lesson with buzzers, motors and light bulbs and were challenged to make them work. Safety was also considered and we discussed the differences between the voltage of batteries and mains. We all know water and electricity do not mix! So I hope you are not reading this now on your phone in the bath! Scientific diagrams, which are understood universally throughout the world, were used by children to represent their circuits.
Transporting to another part of the world, we introduced our geographical enquiry 'Is Nepal a place of diversity?' This learning journey is intertwined with our Reading journey on the book Everest: the remarkable story of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Children have been captured by the blurb and can not wait to discover about this remarkable mountain and the hardships that Tensing and Hillary battled to overcome.
Thinking of well being, we listened to the Hampshire school nursing team about the importance of looking after our bodies: making sure we keep fit, eat healthily, sleep well and take time away from busyness. We are making sure we keep fit in school by actively throwing ourselves wholeheartedly into benchball and dodgeball.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Year 6 Team
