Year 5 Weekly Highlights 16.6.23
Year 5 this week have been writing poems linked to their previous topic on rivers. Exploring different types of figurative language the children wrote a poem in the style of Joseph Siegel, choosing figurative language types for effect. They produced some wonderful poems.
In maths, we began our new unit, Geometry. The children initially began exploring what degrees are and recapped their knowledge of types of angles. Next week we will be into reducing the children to protractors and learning how to use them properly.
In science we are continuing our unit on materials and explored reversible and irreversible changes. The children enjoyed watching the effect vinegar had on bicarbonate soda.
Our new history unit, changes in power of the monarchy explore King John this week and the change that occurred in his reign - Magna Carta.
Finally, this week we also started our new music unit of samba. The children explored the Brazilian carnival sounds and experimented with some of the samba instruments.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Year 5 team
