This week…

In English, we have learnt, and are learning, about how to plan a campaign poster to stop/slow down plastic pollution. We will be ‘in the voice’ of an expert. We are doing research about plastic pollution and how it affects marine animals. If over the weekend there is time, please visit the websites to further immerse yourself in plastic pollution. 

In Maths, we are learning about adding and subtracting fractions with the same and different denominators. We have compared and ordered fractions as well. Every lesson, we do a fluency activity, which tests our memory and helps us remember what we have learnt. The fluency is also helping the teachers know if we need to recap anything in our learning so far.

In Science, we are learning about friction and how to measure it in newtons. Due to the push meters not arriving, we used a computer programme that simulated the shoe experiment. We had to work through the questions to produce a viable test. We used results to plot a scatter graph. 

In Reading, we are learning about a book called the Last Bear. We have read two chapters so far and explored the main character of the book.  We also have predicted the themes in the book ordering the likelihood of the themes from least and most important. The Last Bear is very relevant because it teaches children about the damage that climate change is causing. So far in the book, the characters have journeyed to Bear island where no polar bears are believed to live, but then they find one remaining. This book is also about saving a polar bear.

In RE, we have learnt about Sewa, the Sikh word for service. After exploring how Sikhs service the local community we took part in our own service. Each class went out onto the Hiltingbury Rec to litter pick. We found numerous bottles, sweet wrappers and other discarded items. Members of the public looked on encouragingly and one dog walker thanked us for our service!  It felt good to service the community in this way.
