Year 4 Weekly Highlights 24.2.23
What a fantastic first week back! The children have come back from the holidays ready and keen to learn and it has been a busy week in Year 4!
In Maths we have covered a whole new unit in one week! The children have learned all about Area and how to find it in rectilinear shapes (shapes made from straight sides which meet at right angles!) by counting squares. Their drawings have been very clear and their calculations accurate, even when whole squares have not been used.
In English this week we have come to the end of our Kensuke's Kingdom unit. The children have written discussion texts, deciding whether the main character, Michael should or shouldn't sail around the world with his family. They have explored possible pros and cons, concluding with their own thoughts and feelings on the matter. We have been very impressed with the language choices the children have made and how they have worked really hard to extend their ideas in a series of sentences that link on from one another.
Our foundation subjects have also been quite exciting this week too! In Computing the children have explored the 'repeat' command in LOGO, written repeating pieces of code and then used them to create squares of various sizes. In Science, they all got a chance to separate mixtures of materials using filtration. Children have also been performing to their classes in Music!
Next week starts ourTimes Tables Rock Stars Battle of the Bands! Starting on Tuesday 28th February at 7:30am and ending on Sunday 5th March at 7pm, the heat is on to see which class is going to win the battle! The more you can go on TTRS this week, the greater chance your class has of winning! Ready, Steady, GO!!!
Have a brilliant weekend everyone,
The Y4 Team ;-)
