Year 4 Weekly Highlights 3.2.23
The adventures of Michael, in Kensuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, have hooked the children this week with their English writing. Today the children heard how Michael is washed up on a tropical island with gibbons howling and inquisitive eyes watching him. However, the children will be writing a discursive text debating whether he really should have been pulled out of school for a year sailing around the world with all the cultural experiences this brings but weighing this up with the dangers. Already the children have passionate arguments ready, including the opportunities of swimming with turtles, visiting amazing historical sites, missing school (!) and the dangers of boat eating sharks (?) and huge storms. In maths, the children finished dividing with remainders and have followed this up with multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. The children investigated a range of substances and mixtures in science which they then recorded in their table. Only one mixture was unidentifiable although don't ask how it was identified in 4S ! This week in geography, the children will be investigating the features of a desert biome with the use of the atlases and weather charts as they gather evidence to support their choice of the easiest biome to live in. Finally, 4S were ultra excited when the library came to the classroom. In a bid to inspire the children to fill their reading records with their enjoyment of a range of books, Mrs Thomas brought a huge selection of wonderful books to the children. Having the time to really read the blurb and to consider so many fabulous books certainly
