Year 4 Highlights 25.3.22
This has been a busy week in Year 4 land with a particular focus on RE. Our topic this half term is 'sacrifice'. We investigated what this word might mean by looking in a range of dictionaries and explored an example of sacrifice from the film 'Frozen'. We also discussed the fact that helping at home, for example doing a bit of washing up, was not a sacrifice but part of being a member of a family! On Tuesday, we explored what sacrifice might mean to Christians when we visited the church of St Martins in the Wood. The children's behaviour was exemplary on this trip and we were very impressed by their thoughtful questions. Back in school, we will now be considering the significance of sacrifice at Easter and also examples of sacrifice in the children's own experience and in the wider world.
Meanwhile, in English, preparations for our Beowulf production are underway with an examination of the features of playscripts so that we can learn from others in order to write our own playscripts. Keep an eye on your email for further information about tickets. In maths we are continuing with fractions. This week the focus has been finding fractions of an amount e.g one third of 15 or two fifths of 20. Times Tables Rocks Stars is ongoing and, with last week and this being the eleven and twelve times tables, we have now covered all of them and so will be starting to revise and consolidate the ones we have already learnt, trying to beat our previous scores.
