Year 5 Weekly Highlights 25.11.22
Forming solar systems, painting dolls and comparing concurrent histories are just some of the exciting things that Year 5 have worked on this week.
In science, we used scientific modelling with pom-poms to explain how a solar system can be formed after a supernova explosion. Using pom-poms as space dust and gases, the children used their understanding of gravity to show the movement of dust to form larger objects. Please see some of the photos attached.
Over the past week, the children have been paper and pasting and painting their Mayan dolls in preparation to start the textile in our design and technology unit. Over the next few weeks the children will be designing Mayan clothing fit for a high society Mayan.
In history ,we compared a concurrent civilisation with the Mayans. Having studied the Anglo saxons last year, the children used their knowledge to compare them to the classic Mayan society.
In English, this week we completed our non-chronological reports on their discovered planet. We have had some fabulous scientific reports filled with precise language.
In maths we finished our statistics unit looking at timetables. Time and working out time durations can often be very tricky. If you have opportunities at home, please keep practising this skill.
The children need to read chapter 12 - 13 of Warrior boy. Please make sure they bring the books back in on Monday ready for the lessons.
Have a great weekend! Come on England !
