Year 5 Weekly highlights 30.9.22
Year 5 this week have been continuing with the Listeners poem unit. The children have been exploring vocabulary for effect and developing a plan to write a recount of the traveller from the poem. Using drama and the outside space, they were able to put themselves into the shoes of the traveller - thinking about what he would have thought and felt as he made his way to the abandoned cottage.
In maths we are coming to the end of our place value unit. We have been exploring negative numbers and intervals on number lines. Next week we will be starting our unit on addition and subtraction.
Labelling oranges stimulated lots of good discussions and learning about our world. Using the orange as a model, the children explored the lines of latitude and longitude. In science they learnt about orbits and rotations of the planets. The children explored the use of tables to present data. Next week we will be focusing on the moon's orbit and we look forward to receiving the children's homework on the phases of the moon.
It was lovely to meet some parents this week at the Year 5 meet the teacher event. We look forward to working in partnership you as we continue on our journey through the year. Have a lovely weekend.
